About

Phenomenal Woman is the title of a collaborative art praxis by Caroline Coyle and Nicole McKenna. Their first collaborative arts project was entitled Phenomenal Woman: A Poetic View of the Social Construction of Widows and after producing a short film, a research paper and a presentation, Nicole and Caroline adopted the name Phenomenal Women as their own.

Caroline Coyle is a performance artist and poet. She is currently a PhD candidate and research member at WAM (The Women, Ageing and Media Research Centre) at the University of Gloucestershire, UK. Her WAM PhD explores older women’s’ sense of identity through their participation in the Celtic Festivals of the Seasons on the Hill of Uisneach, Co Westmeath, Ireland. Caroline uses autoethnography, poetry inquiry and arts based creative mediums such as poetry, storytelling, radio, film, drama and art as inquiry tools of discovery. She is the presenter and researcher on ‘Awakening the Goddess Within’, a five part radio documentary featuring older women’s lived experiences of ageing through poetry

Nicole McKenna is a designer // artist // educator. While her background is rooted in design her visual art practice includes transmedia technologies and physical computing. Nicole’s practice is concerned with transitory experience and in how the borderless spaces of the digital world can transcend / augment barriers in the physical world.
